This particular morning in early October, I was up early to paint for the third time since having a baby in late August. The baby was asleep in the car and I had a small window of time to capture the light. The smell of tar weed and damp dry grass permeated the air as the sun rapidly rose through this Eucalyptus Grove.
The location is near my home and I have painted there too many times to count. I have always been drawn to this place just off of highway 280, a classic California landscape with rolling hills, dry grass blowing in the wind, scrub, oak and Eucalyptus. Some paintings speak to you before they are started and some after, this piece is about new beginnings and what is soon to come and really reminds me of my newborn son.
This piece has been accepted into the NAPA VALLEY MUSEUM'S 2005 Plein Air Biennial. Exhibition dates April 9-June 19, 2005.
